Mountain Mist began with a single question
In 2017, a small group of educators and financial communicators living in Chiang Mai began meeting weekly to share a concern they all held: many adults in their forties and fifties had never had the opportunity to sit quietly with their own finances and simply understand them. Not to trade, not to speculate — just to see clearly what they had, what it meant, and what options existed for the years ahead.
From those conversations, Mountain Mist took shape. The name came from the view outside their first meeting room — the way the northern hills emerge from morning fog, patient and unhurried, growing clearer as the day settles. It felt like the right description for what they hoped to offer.
Today, Mountain Mist runs structured financial education programmes from its home on Huay Kaew Road. The team has stayed deliberately small. Every programme is shaped for people who want to understand — not to be sold to, not to be rushed, but to arrive at their own clear view of their financial life, at a pace that suits them.

We do not create pressure. Financial understanding comes with repetition and reflection — not from being rushed through material at a pace that suits the teacher rather than the learner.
Honest language
We say what we mean in words that can be understood the first time. When a topic is complicated, we slow down and find a clearer path through — not a shortcut that oversimplifies it.
Respect for experience
Adults in their forties and beyond have lived through much. We bring that into the room. Their questions come from real life — and we treat those questions with the seriousness they deserve.
Education, not sales
We sell courses. We do not sell financial products. There is no commission, no referral incentive — nothing that pulls us away from simply helping people understand their options more clearly.
Privacy as standard
Personal financial situations discussed in sessions are treated with complete discretion. No individual details are ever shared — inside or outside the group — without explicit permission.
Continuous improvement
Each cohort teaches us something. We revise materials regularly to reflect what participants actually find useful, and we listen closely to feedback after every programme concludes.

Richard spent fifteen years in financial communications before moving to Chiang Mai. He designs all three programmes and leads the Clear Summit sessions personally.

Thai Banking Specialist
Nattaya brings detailed knowledge of the Thai banking and savings landscape. She facilitates the introductory Morning Fog programme and handles bilingual support.
Siobhan Park
Curriculum & Participant Support
Siobhan oversees the printed materials, planning notebooks, and worksheets. She is the first point of contact for participants with questions between sessions.

Educational integrity
All programme content is reviewed annually against current Thai financial regulations and updated whenever the landscape changes. No outdated material reaches participants.
Regulatory clarity
Mountain Mist operates as an educational provider only. We hold no financial services licence and do not offer regulated advice — a boundary we communicate clearly to every participant.
Data protection
Participant information is stored securely and used only for programme administration. We do not share or sell personal data to any third party, ever.
Participant feedback
Every cohort completes a structured feedback form after their final session. Responses are read by the lead educator and used directly to shape the next revision of the programme.
Group size limits
A firm maximum of ten participants per cohort ensures that every person receives individual attention and that questions are never left unanswered due to time pressure.
Transparent fees
Programme costs are stated clearly before enrolment. There are no hidden fees, no upsell sessions, and no add-on costs once a participant has joined a programme.
Our expertise
Financial education shaped for the northern Thai context
Chiang Mai draws a particular kind of person: someone who has chosen to live thoughtfully, often away from the pace and noise of larger cities. Many of the adults who come to Mountain Mist are expats who settled in northern Thailand after long careers elsewhere, or Thai nationals returning to their home region after years of working in Bangkok or abroad. What they share is a desire to understand their financial position clearly — and a preference for doing so without being hurried.
Our programmes are built around the realities of life in Thailand: the structure of Thai savings accounts, fixed deposit options at local banks, the Social Security Fund for those who have contributed, and the considerations specific to retirement planning within the country. We draw on current information from the Bank of Thailand and reputable financial education bodies, and we update our materials each year to reflect any changes.
We also understand that many participants come from different financial systems — some have pensions in the UK, superannuation in Australia, or 401(k) accounts in the United States. We help participants understand how these interact with their Thai financial life, always recommending consultation with a licensed professional for any cross-border or individual planning questions.
Above all, Mountain Mist is a place where adults can sit with their finances without embarrassment or rush. Every question is treated as a reasonable one. Every session is a conversation, not a lecture. And every participant leaves with something clearer than they arrived with — even if that clarity is simply knowing what their next question should be.
