David Hartley

British expat, Chiang Mai

"I completed the Clear Summit Programme in April. I'm 58 and had honestly never sat down with my finances properly — I'd always found reasons to put it off. The ten weeks were unhurried and the group was small enough that I felt able to ask what felt like very basic questions. I came away with a clearer picture of my UK pension's relationship to my life here and what I should be asking a professional. Exactly what I needed."

"I joined the six-week programme after my children had grown and I finally had time to think about my own finances. The content covered Thai savings products in a way I'd never had explained before — even though I've lived here my whole life. Having Nattaya in the sessions to answer Thai-specific questions made it more useful than I expected. I found the pace comfortable. One session could have been longer, but overall I'm glad I came."

"I started with the introductory programme because I wasn't sure what level suited me. Three sessions felt short, but the content was well-paced and I left with a printed guide that I've actually continued using. I'm now enrolled in the six-week course. The team never pushed me to upgrade — I chose to because the first experience was so calm and sensible."

"For me, the most valuable part was understanding what questions to bring to a financial adviser. I had never known how to prepare for those conversations. The Clear Summit Programme gave me a structure and a folder of notes I still refer to. Richard explained complicated ideas without making me feel that the complication was my fault."

Susan Clarke

Australian expat, Chiang Mai

"I was nervous before the first session. I've always found financial topics slightly overwhelming, and I wasn't sure whether this would be another experience of feeling lost. It wasn't. The format was genuinely discussion-based and nobody spoke over anyone else. The worksheets were useful rather than stressful. I came away feeling that my finances were something I could actually deal with."

"I'd tried to educate myself through books and websites, but I couldn't hold the full picture in my head at once. Sitting in a room with other people at a similar stage, moving through the material slowly together, made everything settle differently. The Morning Fog programme is short, but it gave me a clear foundation I hadn't had before."

Participant journeys

Three people, three different starting points

Case study · Morning Fog + As the View Clears

The challenge

A retired teacher from the UK, 61, had been living in Chiang Mai for four years. She had savings in a Thai bank account but no real understanding of her options. She described feeling "financially invisible" — uncertain what she had, and uncertain who to ask.

The programme

She began with Through the Morning Fog, then enrolled in As the View Clears three months later. Both programmes were taken in small groups, giving her space to ask about her specific situation without embarrassment.

After six months

She reorganised her Thai savings accounts into appropriate fixed-deposit products, improved her understanding of her UK pension's payment structure, and met with a licensed adviser for the first time — arriving with a list of questions prepared during the Clear Summit planning folder exercises.

"I no longer avoid looking at my bank statements. That sounds small, but for me it was enormous."

Case study · The Clear Summit Programme

The challenge

A Thai businessman, 52, was planning to step back from active work within the decade. He had multiple accounts at different banks and superannuation paid into during a period working in Australia, but no coherent picture of how these connected.

The programme

He completed the ten-week Clear Summit Programme. The bilingual support from Nattaya helped him interpret Thai banking documentation he'd long ignored. The programme's focus on healthcare planning prompted him to review his insurance arrangements for the first time.

After ten weeks

He had a consolidated written picture of his assets, liabilities, and insurance coverage. He understood the structure of his Australian superannuation and knew which licensed specialist to contact about cross-border planning. He described the programme as "money well used."

"The planning folder is the most useful document I own. I bring it to every financial meeting now."
